speedy west and jimmy bryant1951: Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant, on pedal steel and double neck Stratosphere guitar respectively, cut their first '45s for Capitol Records in Los Angeles. This inspired blend of country and jazz recorded live generally on the first take sounds as astonishing today as it did in the '50s.

Ralph Mooney

Ralph Mooney : Well loved pedal steel player who is credited with inventing the bouncy Bakersfield style of playing due to his many sessions with the likes of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the fifties and sixties. Probably the first player to add a high G# string to his instrument, Ralph claims not to know what notes are on his steel. He and guitar great James Burton came up with the classic instrumental album Corn Pickin' And Slick Slidin' in late'66 - still a much loved recording.
